Our History
In February of 1996 a group of Christians in the Huron Valley region began meeting for a Bible Study with the vision to plant a church which is committed to the Bible as the authoritative rule of faith and life. Since that initial meeting, a regular Sunday evening Bible study was formed, and met for singing, prayer, Bible study, and fellowship.
In the winter of 1999 this group expressed the desire to become a mission work of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. In March 1999 we were officially recognized as a mission work of the denomination, under the oversight of Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Holt, Michigan.
Our first pastor, Rev. Brian DeJong, was installed in September, 2000, and Covenant became an organized congregation of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church on February 15, 2002. As of August, 2005 Rev. DeJong left Covenant OPC to accept a call to Grace OPC
in Sheboygan, WI.
Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church has called Douglas Doll to be its pastor. Doug comes to us from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. Doug passed his examination to become a licentiate in September of 2007 and has been serving our congregation as stated supply. He has been under care of the Presbytery of Michigan
and Ontario. He recently passed his ordination examination and was installed as pastor of our church on Feb. 15, 2008.
Doug received his MDiv from Covenant Theological Seminary in 2007, a PhD in Classics from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 2000, an MA in Classics from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 1995, and a BA in Classical Languages in 1993 from Concordia College, Portland, OR.
Doug served four years in the U.S. Army infantry and was honorably discharged in 1988 as a Sergeant, E-5.
Doug has several years of teaching experience at the university level. He has taught Greek, Latin, Classical Literature, History and Rhetoric. He most recently served as a pastoral intern at Hope Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Collinsville, IL.
